The war on Fat people continues. At this week’s BBW Bash, the “National Association for Body Responsibility” has set up camp, passing out flyers to promote “scorn” to convince people to lose weight. Old News for sure.

Passing out stickers and brochures that say to Ban Fatties from Buffets..etc.. like smoking. But like ex-smokers, ex-fatties think they are entitled to yell/laugh/scorn anyone that doesn’t comply with what they feel is socially acceptable.
What troubles me most is the secondary newspaper here, The Las Vegas Sun, chose to write an article about him rather than the Bash which brings in 1000’s of dollars to the economy, presents a body positive image thus promoting a healthy lifestyle and gives empowerment to those who might not be able to help themselves.
SHAME on the Greenspun family (they are all pretty hefty) for allowing this to be printed. An article on the Bash with this negative portion as the footnote would have been much better.
Here is a copy of my email to the writer, Abigail Goldman (no relation I’m pretty sure to my business partner, Lauren):
I just read your article regarding this person’s war on “fat” people. I find it incredible that this newspaper or any other media would find this news worthy. There has been a war on “fat” people for years, ever since it was OK to be gay. Prior to that, interracial and prior to that Jewish/Irish/Italian etc etc. There always has to be someone to “belittle” and lately it’s “fat people.”
What I find it amazing is that no one felt it necessary to cover the 1000+ people attending the 11th annual BBW Bash–A body positive event– and added his little protest as a footnote. Do WE make you uncomfortable?? How is FAT bashing any different than GAY bashing? Yet is it socially acceptable? Celebrities have lost careers yet no one seems to think we do anything but eat. Perhaps you should choose to do what ABC network The Travel Channel, The Los Angeles Times, The NY Times etc has done and actually WRITE about the bash.
Like ex-smokers, nothing is worse than a former fatty who thinks we all need reform.
