More and more those of us who are “curvey” “chubby” or the more politically correct “plus sized” are having to deal not only with RUDE children but even ruder adults. You know the ones that made fun of us in Gym class have now grown up and because their own personal self esteem is so low, they need to continue to pick on the “Fat Chix”
It’s time to take back that ugly 3 letter word that we all hate. “FAT” Say it with me now. Fat fAt faT FAT. See after a while it is like any other word that is repetitive. It loses its POW appeal.
But as we all know just because we are FAT doesn’t mean we aren’t healthy.
Take for example Olympian Power lifter, Cheryl Haworth. She won the bronze medal in 2000 and is 4 time National Power lifting champion for the U.S. She weighs 300+ lbs. Her 5′9″ frame is solid muscle and her victory in Olympics is a great example for teens that even though they might be deemed by society as ‘fat’ or ‘obese’ they can still accomplish anything.
We, as a community, need to BE healthy. And by being healthy both in body, mind and spirit, means accepting ourselves for the funny, smart and beautiful person that you are.
If we are healthy then we have taken back the power and the word “Fat” has no meaning other

The West Hollywood/Hollywood branch of the National Organization of Women has announced their annual “Love Your Body” Day for Oct. 21, 2007. A day when everyone should Celebrate their curves.
Hosted by Plus sized model Mia Tyler (Daughter of Steven Tyler–looking at those luscious lips you’d know that), the day features fashion shows, massages, and all types of body positive entertainment.
From their Website:
The NOW Foundation’s Women’s Health Project launched the Love Your Body campaign in Sept. 1998 as a national day of action to speak out against advertisements and images of women that are harmful, offensive, disrespectful and demeaning. Each year, on Love Your Body Day, activists around the country say “no” to twisted beauty standards and hazardous advertisements by holding rallies, pickets, house parties, classroom discussions and more.
so Lets set aside a day and realize that we are more than just a body type. We are strong and proud and realize it’s NOW time to “Take back the Fat”!

I can certainly relate to this postcard. For years my mom, even though she was heavy, wanted cheerleader daughters. What she got were 2 chubby nerds. I think that may be why subconsciously I’ve never been able to break that 150lb plateau.
MOTHERS: think before the words come out of your mouth. You never know what effect they will have.
