The West Hollywood/Hollywood branch of the National Organization of Women has announced their annual “Love Your Body” Day for Oct. 21, 2007. A day when everyone should Celebrate their curves.

Hosted by Plus sized model Mia Tyler (Daughter of Steven Tyler–looking at those luscious lips you’d know that), the day features fashion shows, massages, and all types of body positive entertainment.

The NOW Foundation’s Women’s Health Project launched the Love Your Body campaign in Sept. 1998 as a national day of action to speak out against advertisements and images of women that are harmful, offensive, disrespectful and demeaning. Each year, on Love Your Body Day, activists around the country say “no” to twisted beauty standards and hazardous advertisements by holding rallies, pickets, house parties, classroom discussions and more.

so Lets set aside a day and realize that we are more than just a body type. We are strong and proud and realize it’s NOW time to “Take back the Fat”!

This is to roll out the Plus Size Body Positive Calendar for 2008 featuring all body types and sizes 8-22.

MEWV Sustainables, a new plus-size fashion line, is looking for its signature face for their debut this December. Plus-size model hopefuls will have their chance Sunday, Oct. 7 in Portland, Ore. and Sunday Oct. 21 in Los Angeles. MEWV has partnered with the number one magazine for plus-size fashion and Portland-based business, SKORCH Magazine, to find the one winner.

Five finalists will be chosen from each city visited. The top fifteen finalists will then be judged by a panel of industry leaders including Mia Tyler – Plus Size Model/Celebrity, Catherine Schuller – Industry Consultant/Author, Bette Tilch – Industry leading stylist, and more. Readers at SKORCHMagazine.com will vote as well. Frustrated by the lack of finding quality gently worn clothing in the the upscale suburb of Nashville, a team of women lead by owner Sherry Lawler and her partners, Margaret Johnson and Jackie Biggers opened their own consignment store. After 6 months, they have two rooms full of gently used clothing from labels such as Jones of NY, Jessica Howard and Talbots.

Small start-ups like these not only empower our community but brings fashionable clothing at great prices to some who might not otherwise be able to afford to shop full price. It also lets those who have lost or gained weight, expand their wardrobe or clean out their closet and make a few extra dollars on the side.
